Tanglewood Festival of Lights

If you've never trekked out to Clemmons for a ride through Tanglewood to see the Festival of Lights, I definitely recommend it. If you have visited Tanglewood previously during the Christmas season, consider taking someone who has never seen the FOL and show off one of the biggest Christmas light displays in North Carolina. Take a senior citizen who may no longer be physically able to decorate their own home; or take a child and watch his or her face as it fills with awe and wonder as you slowly drive through the winter wonderland of over 1,000,000 lights. Or do what I did, and take a car full of giggling teenage girls. That's always fun!
The park is open for the Festival of Lights beginning the Saturday before Thanksgiving thru January 1 each year from 6-11 p.m. nightly. The entry fee is $10 Monday-Thursday and and $15 Friday-Sunday for family vehicles. Bring some Christmas CD's, tune in to your favorite XM holiday station, or you can choose WMAG, 99.5 FM as they broadcast Christmas music for your trip through the park. And not to give anything away, but you'll hear Christmas bells if you lower your windows while driving through one display.
For shorter lines and shorter wait times, go on a week night or earlier in the season. The park gets busy and the lines get long, especially later in the season. More details are available on the FOL website: http://www.forsyth.cc/parks/tanglewood/?StoryID=18066
Tanglewood partners with the 2nd Harvest Food Bank, so a portion of your entrance fee will benefit disadvantaged families throughout Forsyth County. And for those of us who attempt to be more environmentally aware, most of the lights are LED for longevity and reduced carbon footprint.
There is a Holiday Village, complete with a gift shop, located at the halfway point of the drive through the park. You can get a hot cup of cocoa and marshmallows to roast over an open fire, or shop for locally made gifts and crafts. Santa and Mrs. Claus stop by the gift shop to visit occasionally too.
To make your experience even more unique and memorable, you can reserve a tractor or horse-drawn carriage ride through the park. There are many options available to make your experience at Tanglewood's Festival of Lights unforgettable. Check it out and enjoy!

John 1:4-9

New Living Translation (NLT)
The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.
God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

  1. This is so true. We love the FOL and make it a family tradition to go. The Christmas shop is a great place to find inexpensive, handmade gifts and support the local economy:)
